The year that was

2012 has been somewhat crazy. One of the things that really stood out to us as a team was the launch of our brand and philosophy. It was a great achievement that we will not easily forget. But personal achievements may at time seem trivial when we look back and relive some of the more important events that took place in the year that was. One of the hardest things to do is to remain grounded when everything around you seems to be afloat. During these times, a loss of perspective may mean we have lost ourselves.

So… 2012. What really sets this year apart from the others? Our beloved Queen celebrated her Diamond Jubilee – don’t you all remember? We (and I mean us as humans rather than we the stinkythepig team) discovered the GOD particle – what a name hey. The Olympics came and went, but in all honesty, Australia never seems to remember much about the Olympics when we don’t perform so well. Should we mention the iPhone5? Maybe we shouldn’t. Oh, and there was this guy named Felix that skydived from inner space. We’ve seen old wars reignite where countries filled with loving fathers, caring mothers and innocent children being shot at and bombed. We have seen the coming and going of the end of the world… again. We’ve seen poverty, famine, natural disasters and horrific murders. We have laughed during our loneliest times because there was nothing else you could do. We have cried during our happiest times because a smile just wouldn’t cut it. We have seen small men do great things and wretched maniacs kill innocent children. The weirdest thing is that the negative events seem all too familiar.

There was a saying I heard a while ago that went something along the lines of ‘To the world you are just one person, but to one person you could mean the world’. It’s a good reminder that collectively, we ARE the world. The world isn’t made up of earth, wind and ocean. Nor is it made up of planes, buildings and boats. It is YOU that make the world what it is, and what it will become. So what we encourage everyone to do is to spend a little time to reflect upon the things that have come and gone throughout this year.  Let us use the moments where we have let ourselves down to help us implement improvement throughout 2013. Let us use the moments where we have excelled as a human being to help guide those who need guiding. Look back and remember. Look ahead to succeed.

These are some things we would like you to ponder upon. Lastly, it is just a few days away to the coming of the New Year. As a team, we hope that you are able to celebrate with the people you love and adore. If you are partying, remember to stay safe. If you are travelling, may the wind carry you smoothly and scratch-free to your destination. That’s all from us in 2012. We wish you a very Happy New Year. We look forward to providing you with more material and content to keep you all smiling throughout 2013.
