Cute pigs. Cute pigs? CUTE PIGS? Say what? Ok enough dramatisation. You all already know how much we adore our pigs. Calling them cute does not solely mean that they look adorable enough to pinch and cuddle. Sure they roll around in the mud… sure they may at times eat too much… sure… they… might… smell. But have you ever wondered what other traits these creatures possess that make them all the more interesting? Well, let us enlighten you with some facts.

    1. Some people like to keep pigs as pets. Who wouldn’t? Goo-chi-goo-chi-goo-chi-goo! That’s what you say to baby pigs to keep them from boredom.

    2. Pigs are intelligent animals. Have you ever met someone and thought to yourself ‘Wow, they are really dumb!”. Chances are a random pig would be a little smarter than this particular individual. Yes, we’re talking to you _______. For the purposes of anonymity, we shall not name you .

    3. Despite our sense of adventure, no pig has ever stepped foot (or trotter) on Antarctica. But for some reason Google doesn’t seem to know whether a pig has ever been to the Arctic. Having said this, I’m not sure whether pigs would like the company of polar bears very much. Somehow I think they won’t share much in terms of conversation.

    4. Pigs have a tremendous sense of smell. Most possibly because of some super-duper snout. But have you ever heard that you can never tell whether you yourself smell. Well I guess this also applied to pigs.

    5. If Chinese Zodiacs are your thing then those that are born in the year of the Pig are models of sincerity, purity, tolerance and honour. Face value, most people would think you are fake. Once they get to know you, they know that you would never let them down.

Despite the few fun facts listed above, most of you will form your own opinions whether to love or hate them. A while back we posted some content from Animals Australia whereby they ran a campaign called Make it Possible. This was to stop factory farming where animals such as pigs were treated like waste and were made to live in conditions most people could not even fathom. Why not Google it and have a read. In the meantime, I’m going to go and think of flying pigs till I fall asleep. Good night world!

    Make it Possible

There’s no way out. I have long dreamt of the world that extended beyond these boundaries. It’s suffocating to say the least. I wonder what it would feel like to have the chance to breathe some fresh air because the air within these confines is rancid. I wonder what it would be like to feel blades of grass beneath me – it would be freedom. I wonder if the hundreds of others who live like me feel the same. Hope seems like the only thing that is keeping me whole. Yet hope, although it is still there, seems futile.

I don’t know if I will see much change. But dreaming about change does not cost me a thing. I dream and I hope that someday they will let me out of this cage. I might even be lucky enough to stretch my legs because it seems like a long time since I felt them. Please… help me.

So I’m guessing that the above might be something the caged animals might be thinking or feeling. It’s hard to think that in this day and age, we are still just as barbaric as before. We recently watched a video from Animals Australia called Make it Possible. It saddened us to see the things that go on behind the scenes in the animal trade in Australia and abroad. Sometimes we take for granted the lives that we lead and often forget how lucky we are to have freedom and individualism. Click the link below to watch the short clip.

Also, check out Animal Australia’s website at http://www.makeitpossible.com/ and see all the great work they are doing.

I will save the New Year post for next week. It seems wrong to dilute the emphasis on the above issue. Hope you have been well.
