Stinky goes to Taiwan

So having already tasted parts of Asia, it was time to see beautiful Taiwan. And I say beautiful with a little bias. Although I have no ancestral connections to the country whatsoever, it is a place that is very dear to my heart. So what did Stinky think? He loved it. It is crowded just like the other countries he visited, but the thing that sets it apart are the lovely people here. Yes, there are still the odd few that test your patience however, overall is was a fantastic experience. Food is cheap. FOOD IS CHEAP!!! There is no better place in the world to make your already chubby body chubbier. It is just so joyful to stuff your body with food in Taiwan. They have a saying here about the all you can eat places. Polite people would call it eat till you are full. But as your know, Asians really love to get the most of their money. So the more direct people would say eat till you vomit – it really just depends how local you are.

First stop in Taiwan was Kaohsiung. It is situation in the south of Taiwan. The further away you get from Taipei, road rules change from being the law to something of reference only. There were many close encounters, especially when we kept looking for traffic in the wrong direction. So what did we do in the south? We visited the Love River. What a name hey? In all honesty, it truly is a romantic place to be. It is not much to look at in the day unless you enjoy the sight of coffee coloured water. Go during the night and you will see how magical it becomes. The lights light up the bridges and walkways, people walking around holding hands and laughing – isn’t that a good reflection on what happiness really is? We also visited Ping Tung – a region known for farming bananas, pineapples and betel nuts. There’s really not much to see but we stopped by to visit a few friends so it was worth it. This was where Stinky had his first encounter with another type of stink – Stinky Tofu. I will some it up in one word – WOW. It is definitely an acquired obsession. You need to get through the stink to enjoy it. I personally think that there is nothing better to eat when you are in Taiwan. People say that you have never really been to Taiwan unless you have eaten stinky tofu so make sure you try it.

Another highlight for this leg of the trip was all the night markets we visited. Another reason why Taiwan is so famous amongst locals and tourists alike is the vibrant nightlife they have. There were stalls selling all sorts of delectable goodies. If you’re in Kaohsiung the most recognize one is Liu He Night Markets. If you find yourself in Taipei, there is no other night market more popular than Shi Lin Night Markets. Make sure you go and see what the real Taiwan is really like.

So we’re back home now and still thinking about the many adventures we had over the last two weeks. It almost feels as though we were gone for ages – like we were plucked from reality and transported to a place where the only objective was to have fun. When did we realise that life was so serious that having fun meant that you needed to escape from our daily lives? Shouldn’t everyday be like we are on holiday? Shouldn’t everyday be happy? The sad reality is that for most people, life is more of a chore than a privilege. There are so many out there that are so much less fortunate than we ever will be. We hope that by sharing some of our experiences we are able to bring a little bit of sunshine to your life if you lack it. Last of all, we are grateful for what we have and hope that we will be able to share it with you in one way or another. And if you are one of the lucky few to be blessed with everything, then make sure you share.

Speak to you guys soon! Take care.
