Be Free! Stinky goes to Asia

Happy new year to all! We apologise for not wishing you one earlier. We felt that our post from last week was important, so we did not want to cloud it with any other messages. But that deed has been done and now we can focus on the brighter side of things.

We went through some of the photos we had of Stinky in his travels and noticed a lovely picture of Stinky next to a picture of a little girl. But it wasn’t until recently that we noticed that there was text in the picture that read ‘Be Free’. So we thought whether there was any better advice you could give, other than to free yourself? Being free could apply to so many things and it is not until we learn to truly be free, that we are able to find the haven of happiness. So what are we so caught up in that we need to be reminded of something so simple? Financial stress, bad habits that are hard to shake, free from being forced to work, emotions and a world where love no longer rules supreme? I’m sure the list could go on forever.

Having said all this, we think that true freedom is when your heart and mind act as one. So set yourself a goal, to put your hearts wishes into action. Whether it is mustering up the courage to the tell girl of the dreams that you love her, to sponsoring a child – go ahead and do it.

Since we are on the topic of following your heart, Stinky is finally going to Asia. First stop Singapore. It is quite amazing that Stinky has probably travelled to more places than we have! We look forward to sharing more of his adventures in Asia when he returns. But we are more than excited to see what he will get up to. If you live abroad, and would like to help Stinky in his travels, send us an email at info@stinkythepig.com and we can try and organise something.

Until next we meet, it is Bon Voyage for now.

    Make it Possible

There’s no way out. I have long dreamt of the world that extended beyond these boundaries. It’s suffocating to say the least. I wonder what it would feel like to have the chance to breathe some fresh air because the air within these confines is rancid. I wonder what it would be like to feel blades of grass beneath me – it would be freedom. I wonder if the hundreds of others who live like me feel the same. Hope seems like the only thing that is keeping me whole. Yet hope, although it is still there, seems futile.

I don’t know if I will see much change. But dreaming about change does not cost me a thing. I dream and I hope that someday they will let me out of this cage. I might even be lucky enough to stretch my legs because it seems like a long time since I felt them. Please… help me.

So I’m guessing that the above might be something the caged animals might be thinking or feeling. It’s hard to think that in this day and age, we are still just as barbaric as before. We recently watched a video from Animals Australia called Make it Possible. It saddened us to see the things that go on behind the scenes in the animal trade in Australia and abroad. Sometimes we take for granted the lives that we lead and often forget how lucky we are to have freedom and individualism. Click the link below to watch the short clip.

Also, check out Animal Australia’s website at http://www.makeitpossible.com/ and see all the great work they are doing.

I will save the New Year post for next week. It seems wrong to dilute the emphasis on the above issue. Hope you have been well.

    The year that was

2012 has been somewhat crazy. One of the things that really stood out to us as a team was the launch of our brand and philosophy. It was a great achievement that we will not easily forget. But personal achievements may at time seem trivial when we look back and relive some of the more important events that took place in the year that was. One of the hardest things to do is to remain grounded when everything around you seems to be afloat. During these times, a loss of perspective may mean we have lost ourselves.

    Stinky’s aquatic encounters

    image

Imagine you’re in a dark place, unfamiliar creatures lurking about. You watch while they drift by not even noticing your presence at all. Although dark, the place is filled with an explosion of dark tones and tints that it almost seems colourful. There’s some splashing and the cacophonous mumble jumble of water flowing and falling. Do you know where we are yet?

It’s ok if you aren’t familiar with the above description. You don’t really find yourself in an aquarium that often… right? So Stinky made his first visit to an aquarium. Most people would go to an aquarium to see aquatic and marine life. But this time around, they were greeted by a smiling cheery pig! Now that has got to be exciting right?

The adventure started off with a bang. When walking in, we were first greeted by a ginormous shark! It wasn’t real, but it almost seemed lifelike – its mouth wide open bearing the full package of razor sharp teeth. If this was an indication of what was to come, then it would surely be an experience Stinky would never forget. As we walked into the aquarium, a colony of emperor penguins said hello. It’s amazing how still they can stand because at times, it almost looked like there weren’t real. A very tame creature that stands tall with dignity. They seem to have a quality that we can all learn from – be proud of what and who you are. That’s something a great many of us can’t seem to get right. There are times where I would wonder if we are as great as we make ourselves out to be. Let’s park this thought for now.

We move along and one thing really stood out to Stinky. He remembers snorkeling in the ocean and thought that he had seen the wonders of the water. He hates to think that what he saw was inferior to everything he saw today. But the thought did cross his mind. And to be honest, we tend to behave like this in all matters as well. We always come across things that are bigger and better in our journey. Sometimes we look back and think that the things we had in our past resemble a drop of water in an ocean. But we also forget that it’s the experiences we have – big or small – that make us who we are. So never discount the once significant things in your life.

As we make our way down some ramps, we begin to see the light of day fade away. The light becomes bluish and the jitterbugs start to take over. We make our way deeper and deeper until we walk right into the middle of a humungous tank. As we pick our jaws up from the floor a manta ray glides above us, while its shadow swallows us for mere seconds. There are fish. There are rays. There are… SHARKS! Oh what a sight they were. Stinky couldn’t believe his eyes. To think that the only thing separating Stinky and the sharks was only a piece of Perspex glass!

So we sat there for quite a long while watching the marine life gracefully swim about in their serenity. It is quite amazing how they all get along and just respect one another’s space. Stinky started to realise that sharks weren’t as aggressive and maniacal as the shows on TV made them out to be. Yes, they do possess and aura of supremacy. But they don’t go around bullying other fish just to show them that they are great. It’s a good reminder to be humble… whoever you are. Whether you are a powerful CEO or the leader of a nation, it’s a stark reminder that being humble is a quality that will earn more respect than if you were to be a power pusher.

We sat, we watched and then an announcement came on advising the aquarium was due to close. We didn’t want to leave such a relaxing and magical place. Eventually, we made our way out. It would be another experience Stinky would never forget. It really is true that life is not measured by the amount of breaths we take, but truly by the moments that take our breath away. Go forth and make these moments for yourself. Trust us, you won’t regret it.

    Till next time…

    Freefalling

    by Stinky

The lady was saying all sorts of things to me, giving me instructions even, yet I did not hear a thing. It could have been instructions on what to do to stay safe, but I ignored her because I was too occupied reminiscing. This might sound strange to you, but it will all make sense in a short while.

‘Would you like to take out personal accident insurance?’

SAY WHAT? Ok, so I’ll cut the suspense now and let you know that I went skydiving. And as fun as it sounds, I was completely and utterly terrified. I have never been so scared in my life. So a few of my closest friends picked me up and drove me out west to Sydney Skydiving Centre. It was a horrible car ride. Usually I am quite excited to go out with my good mates, but this ride was eerily silent. I had butterflies in my tummy and felt nauseas to a degree. Not to mention it was nearing 40 degrees on the thermometer too! What a way to start the weekend.

So we arrived and I registered for the jump – alone… Waited for a little while then suited up, harness on and after an awkward meeting with the guy who I was going to tandem with, we headed out to the runway where we boarded a tin can… I mean a plane that rattled like a tin can. There were so many jumpers we squeezed in the tin can like sardines – quite a good analogy I think. The plane took off and there was NO TURNING BACK. Reminds me of those moments in your life where you make a decision, take action, realise it may not have been the best course of action, but also know it is too late to stop. I am sure we have all experienced something like this.

I think back to my friends who were completely safe on solid ground and then realised that I didn’t say ‘bye’ to them. All I gave them was a reluctant smile, a half-hearted wave and I was off. So we are sitting in the plane, looking at one another, whilst I was trying my best not to be nervous. I look up and see 3 lights. On one it said ‘3 minutes’, the other was ‘1 minute’ and the green light read ‘GO!’

My stomach sunk when the 3 minute light turned on. Buckles were being clipped in, straps were being tightened, my nerves flared up like a pimple does on your nose when you need to look your best. I start praying. The 1 minute light comes on. My mind starts to spin. I look out the window and can see the cloud line. I look up to the ceiling and pray again.

    ‘GO!’

People start jumping out of the plane as if it were on fire. The speed in which they opened the hatch door and the speed in which they made their exit made me realise one thing. THERE WERE NO JUMPERS LEFT. It was my turn. I was pushed to the opening door, made to sit down with my legs dangling outside of the plane. Before I knew it…………

    FREEFALL.

Adrenalin. Fear. Excitement. Falling. What an exhilarating experience. It felt like I was floating in the air without a worry in the world – well except for the fact that in mere moments I could become a human pancake. But apart from that the view was spectacular; the feeling of freefall is universally outstanding. The chute was released, it twisted and turned and untangled itself then a big WHOOP sound was heard. It had opened – biggest relief in my life. So as we floated in the air, casually enjoying the view from a few thousand feet up, I was amazed at how great I was feeling. Nothing could compare to the feeling of falling.

So we drifted and drifted while he was flying us back to the landing site. He turned the parachute so that we would slide in right in front of my friends. I lifted my legs up as instructed and we slid as we landed. I was extremely happy. He unbuckled me and I immediately gave him a hug. He asked me what was the best part of the jump, and of course I said ‘LANDING!’

We all had a great laugh at my expense but nevertheless, it is an experience that I will never forget. I want to thank all of my friends who encouraged me to jump. There is no better way to actually ‘let go’ than to fall and realise that there are only a handful of things in life that really matter. And that is sharing, giving and love. Everything else just seems so minute. Don’t you reckon?

And since we are on the topic of falling, the stinkythepig plush toys will be arriving around December 15th. HOW EXCITING!!! Our site will be updated shortly to take pre-orders. We want to do it this way so that when we get our hands on the toys, we will be able to get them out to you all as soon as possible. We’ll let you know exactly when the site is updated to cater for this. So until then, stay excited! And remember! Share something special with the people you care about.

    Take care.

    Take me home with you

Before you say anything, let me start first. THEY TURNED ME THREE DIMENSIONAL.

Ok, so what were you going to say?

The team are proud to introduce to you the first ever stinkythepig plush toy. Now everyone will be able to take home a little love and laughter. We hope to be able to have them ready to send to you prior to Christmas. It is super-duper exciting! We’ll make sure to keep you all updated with all the information you need to get your hands on such a cute piece of Stinky history!

So when Stinky the plush toy arrived, we decided to take him on his very first trip to Melbourne. Why you ask? Well… why not? We took him on the train and then on the plane. One thing that really stood out to us was that whenever people saw Stinky, they just smiled. So that really reinforces our mission of bettering the world one smile at a time.

Christmas is almost upon us. We have another special surprise for you all. We are going to remain a little tight-lipped about it however; we can let you know that there may be a special visit by a certain pig with a white beard and a certain pig with a red nose.

That’s all from us this week. Some pretty great things to look forward to.

    Wishing you well!

    From the team at stinkythepig.

As another month has come and left us, we come to realise that the time of year where everyone shows the spirit of giving is almost upon us. We can’t believe it is November already – time really does fly when there are so many exciting things happening.

Most notable for one of the team members is the MS Society’s Gong Ride. The ride is a charity event organized by the MS Society to raise awareness and funds for people suffering from multiple sclerosis. It is a disease of the central nervous system affecting more young adult Australians than any other neurological condition. If you would like to support this worthy cause, please follow the link below:

We are really looking forward to showing you what we have in store for Christmas. We really hope you like it. But in the meantime, we challenge you to do a random good deed to someone you care about or even a complete stranger. It is the collective small things we do that really make this world a wonderful place. Be happy and take care!

We’re really looking forward to next week. This time we won’t be introducing only one but two new characters. The story this time will be on the humorous side – changing it up a little. But as always, with a lesson to learn.

More exciting things to come as we have said before. Love takes time so hoping you all will be patient with us!

    Take care!
